Nuclear engineers urging IAEA to create “Level 8″ on INES (International Nuclear Event scale) for Fukushima

Currently the Maximum Level on the International Nuclear Event Scale is a Level 7.

Given all that has occured with the Fukushima Nuclear Accident the scale clearly needs to be revamped and finally Nuclear Engineers are urging the International Atomic Energy Agency to do just that!  The current scale does not suit the scale of the Fukushima Nuclear Plant disaster by far!

on May 26, 2011  Linda Moulton Howe from Coast to Coast A.M. Radio  interviewed Scott Portzline, Security Consultant to Three Mile Island. In the interview Scott Portzline says that Fukushima has gone way beyond the scope of the Chernobyl nuclear accident. Scott goes on to say that” Fukushima is out of control” and that the crisis at the Fukushima Nuclear Plant is so bad that it warrants a New level to be created! Level 8.  He states that nuclear engineers are gathering information and will be approaching appropriate authorities later this week to lobby for a new level to be created on the grounds that there are multiple meltdowns at Fukushima, which is something that no other nuclear accident has had.  He says it is a crisis that requires International assistance.  Further more Mr Portzline said that no one has ever imagined that a nuclear incident of this magnitude would have ever happened, but now that it has come into fruition it requires a Level to be added that we never before imagined we would need.
